Brisbane Etchells was established in 1976 at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. During these 40 years, Brisbane Etchells has produced several International Governors, many National Champions and the 2009 World Champions.
With a very proactive management committee and equally driven bunch of competitive sailors, the fleet has grown from strength to strength. A testament to this passion is the recent awarding of the 2018 World Championships to the Brisbane fleet.
Our weekend club racing sees at least 12-15 boats on the water throughout the season and regattas easily attract 20+ boats.
Even after 40 years, the Etchells continues to be the ONLY one-design keel boat class that offers extremely competitive racing with fleet numbers that test sailor’s skill week-in-week-out. When not sailing Etchells, many of our fleet can be found sailing in Australia’s premier blue water events on large yachts.
We are generously supported by a team of volunteers from RQYS who set the courses, starts and provide race support each weekend.
“STARTING CREWS AND RACE OFFICERS HAPPILY CLASS THEMSELVES AS THE ETCHELLS RACE TEAM AND GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO ENSURE THAT GREAT COURSES AND GOOD RACING IS ASSURED.”
